ABOUT THE UNSEEN ENEMY

Radon is an odorless, tasteless, invisible enemy that can infiltrate your home and threaten your loved ones.  The only way to identify if radon is a critical problem, is through on-site, high quality testing.
What Is Radon?

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas released in rocks, soils and water, that can build up to dangerously toxic levels. It develops deep in the earth's mantel starting as Uranium and degrading into Radium and ultimately Radon.  Radon is a natural enemy and it can infiltrate any structure.   No building is safe, including homes, schools, or businesses- - whether new or old construction, sealed or drafty, basement or crawl space!

Where Is Radon?

Radon has been found all over the world and in every state.  Northwest Oregon and southwest Washington have identified a number of moderate to concernigly high threat regions.   No one can predict where radon will attack!  Radon levels vary greatly from building to buidling.  Even a home next door can have very different levels.  When radon escapes the earth's substrate, it finds the route of least resistance.  Your home has a positive pressure vacuum that draws the radioactive gasses inside and trapping them .  Your fortress has now been invaded!

How Does Radon Impact Your Health?

In your home is where these radioactive gases become dangerous.  The radon gas degrades and breaks down into alpha radiation, which is able to alter your cellular DNA.  The result...CANCER.  Since the primary form of radon is inhaled as a gas, the lungs are the most susceptible.  Radon gas is the  world's primary cause of cancer in non-smokers and the second leading cause of cancer in smokers.  It is estimated that in the US, greater than 20,000 deaths per year are caused by radon.  Your risk greatly increases if you smoke and live in a home with high radon levels.

In The Media

Since being identified in 2010 as a primary cause of lung cancer, the National Radon Action Plan has been implemented.   November 10, 2015 they presented a long range strategy for eliminating avoidable radon risk in homes and saving lives.  Radon has been reported locally as a threat that no one should ignore.
